Whether Polarsteps Plus is worth it depends on how you travel and how you like to look back on your trips. Everything you already use in Polarsteps stays free, so Plus is about getting more from your journeys. It's not about unlocking the basics. Below you'll find an overview of what you get with Plus, which users tends to love it, and who's perfectly fine without subscription.
What you get with Plus
Plus adds a set of features on top of the free experience:
- 3D maps: See your trips in 3D and relive your route across real terrain
- Play mode: Replay every twist and turn of the routes between your steps
- More map styles: Customize how your world looks with extra styles like Winter and Terrain
- Step stats & elevation profile: More advanced trip statistics, including distances per transport mode and elevation elevation
- Up to 10 Travel Buddies: Invite up to 10 people to contribute to a single trip, compared to 5 on the free plan
- A Plus badge: Show your support for Polarsteps and help us keep building the app
- 20% off Travel Books: Yearly Plus members get 20% off every Travel Book. (This discount comes with the annual plan only and can't be combined with other promotions)
For the full, most up-to-date feature list, see polarsteps.com/plus.
What stays free
All the core features you know and love remain free: planning future trips, tracking and sharing current travels, following friends, and looking back on past adventures. You can keep using Polarsteps exactly as you always have without subscribing. If you follow someone who has Plus, you'll be able to see the Plus features they've added to their trip, even on the free plan. And if you're joining a Plus member as a travel buddy, you get some of the benefits too! For more info, see: How Polarsteps Plus works for Travel buddies and followers
Who Plus is a great fit for
Plus tends to be worth it if you:
- Love reliving your trips and want the most beautiful way to see them, with 3D maps and Play mode
- Enjoy all the details and stats; how far you travelled, how high you climbed, and how you got around
- Travel in a group and want to add more than 5 buddies to your trip
- Order Travel Books regularly. The yearly plan's 20% discount can offset a good part of the subscription if you print your memories
- Want to support Polarsteps
When staying free makes sense
You don't need Plus to get full value from Polarsteps. Staying on the free plan is a good choice if you:
- Use Polarsteps primarily as a Trip Planning app and/or are looking for a free alternative to Wanderlog or Stippl. All our Planning functionality is completely free, including forwarding booking confirmations, collaborative planning with Travel Buddies, AI trip planning and our drag-and-drop itinerary builder
- Only use Polarsteps to track shorter, city trips where stats and 3D or hiking maps won't add much to your experience
- Only use Polarsteps to follow your friends and family, not to plan your own trips
What it costs
Polarsteps Plus is available as a monthly or annual subscription:
Monthly: €8.99 per month. The easy way in: try it, see how it fits, and cancel any time.
Annual: €29.99 per year. Better value if you know you'll stick around. You save around 72% compared to paying monthly, and it's the only plan that includes the 20% discount on all your Travel Book purchases.
Note: Prices may vary slightly by country and currency, and the price shown in your app is the price you'll be charged. You can switch between monthly and annual later. For current pricing in your region, check polarsteps.com/plus or the Plus screen in the app.
Still not sure?
A simple way to decide: start with monthly if you'd like to try the features on your next trip, or go annual if you already know you'll keep using Plus or plan to order a Travel Book. You can cancel any time, and your trips and data always stay yours. See Managing your Polarsteps Plus subscription for more info.
You can subscribe from the settings menu in the Polarsteps mobile app, or when purchasing a Travel Book. For more detail, see What is Polarsteps Plus?
