When you're travelling, the way you move matters — whether you're hiking across Patagonia, cruising the Nile, or road-tripping through the Rockies. With Transport Mode, you can tell Polarsteps how you travelled each leg of your journey, making your Travel Tracker even more accurate and personal.
ℹ️ Note: Transport Mode (used for tracked trips) is not the same as Transport Planner (used when planning future trips).
What is Transport Mode?
Transport Mode lets you select how you travelled between steps — by car, boat, bike, foot, and many other modes of transport. It shows up as an icon on your travel route and affects how the route is drawn on the map.
How do I set the transport mode?
- Open your trip.
- Tap on a transport icon or on the route line between two steps.
- The selected route section will highlight, and the transport menu opens.
- Pick your preferred mode and tap 'Save' — done!
What if I had multiple modes of transport on a leg within my trip?
Want to update just a part of your route between two points? You can edit a subsection of your route like this:
- Tap on a transport icon or route line between two steps to select the full leg.
- Tap on a Travel Tracker step (a small dot on the route) to start a subsection selection.
- Tap a second Travel Tracker step to define the end of your sub-section.
- The subsection is now selected — the transport menu appears.
- Choose a new transport mode for this section
- Tap 'Save'
To cancel the selection, just tap anywhere on the map or the same Travel Tracker step again.
What if I want to set transport mode but I don’t see any transport mode icons to click on?
Just click on the route line between two steps and you will see the Transport Mode selector appear. You may need to zoom in to make sure you click on the route.
