You can add photos and videos to your trip from any app that lets you share them, without opening Polarsteps first. Polarsteps appears in your phone's share menu, so the steps are the same in most apps. Below you'll also find tips for the two most used apps: Apple Photos and Google Photos.
How to add photos and videos from another app
- Open the photo or video you want to add, or select several at once.
- Tap Share.
- In the list of apps, tap Polarsteps.
- Under Add to trip, choose the trip.
- Choose the step you want to add your media to, or tap Add step to create a new step.
- Polarsteps opens the step with your media added. Check it, then tap Publish.
The same steps work in any app with a Share button, such as your phone's gallery app or a messaging app
Photos app (iPhone)
- To select several photos or videos, tap Select in your library, then tap each one.
- The Share icon is in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Google Photos (iPhone and Android)
- To select several photos or videos, press and hold one, then tap the others.
- Tap Share, then choose Polarsteps from the list of apps.
What happens to your photos and videos when you create a new step vs. add to an existing step
Adding to an existing step: your media is added after the photos and videos already in the step. To change the order, open the step's media and drag them into place.
Creating a new step: the step's date and location come from the oldest photo or video you shared.
You can change the location, date and time before you tap Publish.
Troubleshooting
I can't see Polarsteps in the share menu: Update Polarsteps to the latest version. On iPhone, scroll to the end of the row of apps and tap More. On Android, scroll through the list of apps or tap More.
I get an error when I share to Polarsteps: Make sure you're logged in to the Polarsteps app and have at least one trip. If you don't have a trip yet, create one first.
My new step has a different date from my photo: If the photo was taken outside your trip's dates, the step is placed within the trip dates instead. You can change the date before you publish.
Photos from Google Photos take a while to appear: Photos stored only in Google Photos or other cloud apps have to download to your phone first. This can take longer on a slow connection.
