Trip Summary
The statistics and Countries on the trip summary page are generated with information that we retrieve from your trip. This means that if you'd like to make changes to the statistics on this page, you can do this by editing the steps in your trip.
Countries
We add a country to this list once there is at least one step placed in that country. If there are only Travel Tracker dots tracked, without any steps added, you won't see the country listed here. Adding a step in the country will update the information on this page. A maximum of 13 countries can be listed in the overview.
Kilometers
Polarsteps doesn't register exactly which roads you've traveled. Of course, our Travel Tracker is meant to track your route, but it does not function as a live tracker or a running route map. This means that your distance traveled is an estimate but not an exact number. You can read more about how our Travel Tracker works in the following article: How does the Travel Tracker work? Does it use GPS?
If you think that your distance traveled should be higher than on the Trip summary page, then we advise you to look at the route of your trip and see whether there are some routes that were not tracked. If this is the case, then you can manually add steps to your trip by tapping on the + anywhere on your trip's timeline. In this case, you can construct any missing routes on your trip's map.
On the other hand, if you think the distance you traveled should be lower, then we advise you to look at the route of your trip and delete any inaccurate travel tracker steps from your trip.
Days
This will show the number of days your trip lasted. You can see and adjust the start and end dates of your trip in your trip settings.
Steps
This shows the number of steps you've placed in your trip. A 'step' is where you add your step texts, photos, videos, top spots & activities, etc.
Hometown
If the location we show as your hometown is different from what you expect, then we recommend looking at the City in your Profile Settings. Updating the city name to your hometown will update the information in your Travel Book.
Furthest point from home
If the location we show as the furthest point from home is different from what you expect, then we recommend looking at the location data that is set for the furthest step from home. Go to the step -> tap edit step -> tap on the pen icon to open the location information for this step. Updating the location of this step will update the information in your Travel Book.
The furthest point from home that you see in your Travel Book is calculated 'as the crow flies'. The location in your book is representative of flight distance and how many kilometres there are between your home and your furthest point during your trip if you were to fly directly there.
Map
The map automatically tries to zoom in on the main part of your trip, leaving out the travel to and from your destination. It does this by looking at the steps around each flight: any steps placed within 48 hours before or after the start or end of your trip are treated as travel time and left out of the zoomed view.
This means that if you'd like to change what the map zooms in on, placing more or fewer steps within that 48-hour window (right at the start or end of your trip) could influence the result.
At this moment, it is not possible to manually zoom in or out of the map in your Travel Book, and it is also not possible to leave out the map entirely.
