Sharing your trips with friends and family is very easy. Just follow these steps:
Sharing your trip
a. In the Polarsteps app
- Open the trip you wish to share
- Tap the menu icon in the upper right-hand corner (≡)
- At the bottom of this menu, you will see a button called 'Share this trip'
You can also tap the 'Share' button () in your trip plan.
b. Using the polarsteps.com website
- Open the trip you wish to share
- Hit the 'Share' button that is shown at the top of your trip (next to the settings)
After tapping the share button, you can choose between an image of your trip route or a link to your trip. Select your preferred option and platform to share.
Followers only, or anyone with the Secret link?
If you are sharing a link to your trip, you will see the following options:
- Followers only: Share your trip with anyone who follows you
- Anyone with the secret link: share your trip with anyone, including people without an account
Pick the first option if you only want people to see your trip who already follow you on Polarsteps. Followers need a Polarsteps account in order to follow you and view your trips. Pick the secret link if you want others to view this trip too, but please read the following:
Is my trip only visible to the people I share the link with?
Anyone who has the secret link to your trip can view your trip. Even when your trip settings are set to 'Followers'.
This means that when an excited aunt or funny friend shares this secret link with others, those other people can also view your trip. Therefore we recommend you that you always be thoughtful about who you share your secret trip link with. If you really don't want for your trip link to be shared with people you haven't selected yourself, then we recommend asking the people you share the link with not to share it with others.
The only way to make your trip invisible for people who already have your trip's secret link is to change the trip's privacy setting to 'Only me', but then no one can see your beautiful travels.
